Barricane House, Mortehoe
Below is a selection of comments from our guest
Parker walking group - Excellent accommodation, wonderful walks, welcomed at The Ship Aground - good ale and well prepared and served food. Shame we have to go home. Would like to return.
Mitchell & Howell family - House super, countryside a walkers paradise, beaches fabulous, rock pools deep enough for me to swim in and all topped with an Indian summer - 26 C today. Wonderful, wonderful time! Already planning next visit.
Woolhouse family - Lovely cottage, great location.
Jamieson & Ellis family - A great 3rd year here - this is starting to feel like our second home. Lovely as always.
Hudson family - Even though I thought I knew what to expect as Gill has visited the house several times, it was a complete surprise and a real pleasure to stay for the week.
Walker family - The house is fantastic, everything at hand and do use the village shop the service and food is far better than the supermarket. If you tell the shop owners where your staying, you may, if your lucky like me, get your shopping carried home!!
Greenrods and more - Enjoyed the scarecrow weekend. Wonderful house to stay in - thank you for providing everything needed for a great holiday. Village shops are fantastic - shop next door particularly. Loved the children’s games room in the attic, except for ‘Disconnected’, possibly the dullest board game ever created, and that’s saying something from a family who were inordinately excited by their sighting of a high brown fritillary.
Biffin & Crane family- Tried to get through all the tea bags in the cupboard but didn’t manage it!
Huxtable family - This is the most welcoming, comfortable and well equipped house I have stayed in. It catered for all our family of three generations and more. We have been coming to Mortehoe for the last 30 years on and off, but this was pure luxury and feel so relaxed, I could stay loads longer but reality awaits, but we will be back, probably with new addition to the family.
Carpender family - Our second stay at Barricane and another blissful week in Mortehoe/Woolacombe. Weather better than forecast. Able to enjoy all our favourite walks and visit special places. A family of seals just to the right of Morte Point was a regular port of call to watch them playing in the waves. Thoroughly recommend the Shore Safari at Barricane Beach organised by the National Trust.
Wilder family - Back at Barricane for another lovely Mortehoe weekend. The garden is looking especially attractive and when the sun comes out it’s a joy sitting here with a coffee and watching the world go by. Tried to find the Cromlech near the Lookout Point, failed first time but found it second time. Celebrated with a pint of Proper Job at the Chichester.
The Ladies - Glorious cottage. So well kitted out and glorious facilities. Horse riding at Wool Riding stables highly recommended Lush weekend all round, thank you for making it extra perfect. Already discussing next years dates.
The Wilsons - Wonderful winter break in brilliant sunshine! Wish we could have stayed longer.
Ellis and Porter families - Wonderful holiday. Fantastic weather. Really enjoyed the house and village.
Three generations of the Watson/Templeton families - Wonderful holiday. Lovely cosy family house. Fantastic location. Great beaches.
Loebell family - Beautiful cottage in a wonderful village. Really hope to return again soon. Only down side was the salt in the sugar container which granddad enjoyed on his first bowl of cornflakes. The kids really enjoyed that one, but we don’t know whether to blame the previous occupants or the cleaner, but granddad has now labelled the container “SALT”.
Hudson and Vanderhoest family - David & Maggie were robbed not to win the scarecrow competition. Nick Thorn’s surf lessons highly recommended, horse riding on the beach from Woolacombe stables was great. Barricane beach cafe still the best. Fab house.
Goodfellow family - Lovely house - you have thought of everything. We have fallen in love with this part of North Devon and will be back. Thanks for a wonderful holiday.
Kassam family and friends - Best house we’ve had in the area and we are regulars here. Kids loved the extra ‘dens’ upstairs and the easy treks to the beach. Thanks for a great holiday. We intend to come back!!
Symes and family - We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.........it is a beautiful house with wonderful history and an absolutely fantastic setting that we all fell in love with and am sure will be back if at all possible. From the youngest in our party age 2 to the oldest, Tracy's father who will be 91 this year, we all had a lovely time together.
McMillan and family - We had a fantastic holiday. Your home was perfect, had everything we needed and more. We usually stay in Woolacombe but found being in Mortehoe more relaxing and closer to the walks we like, plus the girls enjoyed having the park and sweet shop near by. We will definitely stay again.
Willder and family - We had a wonderful time – even the weather was on our side, as it had stopped raining by the time we set off on our Sunday walk to Lee and we saw a fair amount of sunshine over the weekend. The front of your house is a real sun trap and we enjoyed sitting there with a cup of tea and attracting envious glances from passers-by! In fact, I wondered if it might be a good idea to put a plaque on the wall with your website address for anyone who sees the house and thinks they might like to rent it another year. We’ve rented quite a few different houses over the years in Mortehoe but Barricane was by far the best: a superb location right in the middle of things, lots of space for everyone in the family, a real “loved and lived-in” feel, a sense of history combined with modern conveniences, a fantastic den for teenagers, wonderful bathrooms, and lots of thoughtful touches like toiletries and food basics and equipment like the windbreak and backpacks for visitors to use. Being so close to the village store was a huge advantage too – in fact the owners were so kind that they even delivered our pasties and hot bread straight from the oven!
Cripps and family - Thank you very much, we enjoyed our week immensely and will undoubtedly return at some point.
Rolfe and friends - Just a quick note to let you know how much we enjoyed staying at Barricane House over the weekend. The house is lovely and I particularly like the quality of the bathrooms and kitchen. Gives and Gets is a nice idea, although nothing ran out while we were there! I left some marmalade though just to add to the collection.
